31 Days to a New Year – DAY 8

December 8, 2011— DAY 8: If you’ve not figured out by now, I am asking you to do things that make you think about your life. Many times we go through the “motion” of life without really thinking about where we are going or maybe even how we got here. What I have discovered is that for many, the “going through the motions” has replaced planning and dreaming. Over the past few days I have discussed many planning activities. Today I want to ask you what might be one of the toughest questions yet. When was the last time you had a dream? Often when coaching I will ask this question and the answer I get back is first of silence and then “I don’t remember”. For many – they started with wonderful ideas and dreams only to wake up one morning and realize that life just happened to them and their dreams got lost in the shuffle of life.

So… today we learn how to dream again.  One a piece of paper I want you to answer the following questions:

  1. If you had all the time and money you needed what would you spend your time doing?

  2. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?

  3. What is the one thing you always wanted to do but have not attempted it yet? What would you like look like if you accomplished that one thing?

  4. Make up your own questions if you want… just DREAM

Use your daily think time to start imagining your future. No idea is too ridiculous. Write them all down. You may need to think back as far as your youth to remind yourself of the things you once dreamed about. Even if your dream was to be a famous dancer, singer or sports hero – write them down.

Once you have a list – start asking yourself how can I start to act on some of these dreams? If the dream is something that seems impossible – like the winning quarterback of a Super Bowl team – you will need to start to think about how you can connect in with football even if it means you don’t win the Super Bowl ring – you would help a youth team go the distance.

I dare you to start dreaming again!
