December 25, 2011 – DAY 25 | Clearing the Clutter

December 25, 2011 – DAY 25 | Clearing the Clutter: Someone said to me today that it is common for donation centers and ministries to get donations of clothing and household items after Christmas. My first thought was that people were making room for all of their new stuff by giving away everything that was old, broken or no longer in use. To be honest what I really thought to myself was that it is time for people to clear out their junk. Then it occurred to me that our minds are full of a lot of junk thinking and junk doing. This 31-day adventure is really about clearing the clutter and making room for better stuff. To make real changes will require us to get rid of the broken and unusable ways of doing things. It is time to clean house!

I have this simple rule about stuff. If you’ve had it for more than a year and have forgotten about it and didn’t miss it – get rid of it. If it’s broken – junk it – because it is no longer of the best value to you.  Getting rid of stuff is one thing because you can donate it, repurpose it, sell it, or just throw it away. When we are talking about our habits and hang-ups we really are talking about junking it all together.

Sometimes, in order to get our mental house in order we must also get our physical space in order as well. Perhaps your home, your office, your workspace is cluttered. In order to be more effective, it is time you cleared it out. Get that preverbal garbage bag and junk that useless stuff. It’s time we cleared way for a more prosperous way of thinking and living.
